2,000Ah Catamaran Battery Bank with Blue Heron Modular Batteries
If anyone is considering upgrading to lithium batteries, we recently finished a large upgrade using the Modular line of quality batteries with external BMS from Blue Heron Battery, at www.blueheronbattery.com . Here is a picture of a Blue Heron Lithium Modular Battery, similar to what we installed. As you can see these batteries are very impressive, with strong clamping plates, dual battery posts to ensure solid electrical connections, and channels formed in the plastic shell to allow good cooling. Ours are 400Ah batteries, with 5 in parallel. The Bluetooth features in the BMS are powerful, with individual cell balancing, 59 parameters monitored, and ability for the operator to adjust settings and set more conservative values, monitoring of each cell’s voltage to the thousandth of a volt (very sensitive equipment), and cells that are very stable and steady through their capacity range. With comprehensive monitoring, automatic actions, and precise balancing and control, these cells will last a very long time. And as a bonus, the service and technical support provided by Blue Heron Battery were exceptional and made for a smooth installation.
Since completing the installation we have put the batteries through their paces, as we’ve sailed through the Keys, and did a passage to Pensacola – running air conditioning at times, plus refrigeration and freezer, autopilot, electronics and all the usual loads, plus solar and alternator charging. The batteries and electrical system are working nicely. I would not hesitate to recommend Blue Heron Battery for your lithium batteries!
