From smaller cruising sailboats, to larger ocean passage-makers and then even superyachts, your options break down into the following three groups:
Type I House Bank - Smaller sailing vessels, or ones with limited loads, may have a single battery that serves as the starting battery in addition to taking care of the limited house loads. We have the perfect Battery for you - Our Dual Purpose - Starting and House Battery, with a large 105Ah capacity, and the ability to start a diesel engine of up to 50 HP, or gas outboards or auxiliary engines of up to 115 HP.
Type II House Bank - Cruising sailboats with a separate starting battery and a house bank of 100Ah up to 1,200Ah, can use combinations of our 105Ah, 210Ah, and 312Ah Drop-In batteries (up to 4 in parallel or 4 in series) for their house bank. As these are in enclosed cases, they are well protected for light spray or moisture entrained in the air. The integrated, internal BMS, has Bluetooth.
An alternative that is more space efficient and longer lasting is our Modular Battery, available as 105Ah, 210Ah or 315Ah. These need to be placed in interior dry lockers. They usually fit nicely in an interior settee locker, as they are a little taller than drop in batteries and thus use that kind of locker space well, with a smaller footprint than the drop-in batteries. Our Modular Batteries can be connected with up to 8 in parallel and 4 in series; and must be paired with our heavy duty BMS or equivalent on each battery. These also have Bluetooth for easy battery monitoring.
Type III Battery Bank - Battery banks for much larger vessels of 60 to 150 ft., with many electrical demands like autopilots, large windlasses, refrigerators, freezer, icemaker, large flat-screen TV(s), electric winches, multiple inverters, air conditioning, etc., can range from 1,200Ah’s to 3,000Ah’s, and may need this in 24V. We have supplied batteries and BMS to vessels in this range, recently a 2,000Ah 12V modular battery bank.
